Variable contributions of seafloor communities to ecosystem metabolism across a gradient of habitat-forming species

چکیده

The contributions of habitat-forming species to the biodiversity and ecosystem processes marine terrestrial ecosystems are widely recognized. Aquatic plants considered foundation in shallow ecosystems, as they maintain sustain many functions such primary production respiration. Despite increasing amount biodiversity-ecosystem functioning experiments seagrass habitats, effects benthic variability on rarely investigated across spatially variable aquatic plant habitats. Here, we quantitatively link seasonal seafloor metabolism (i.e. gross community respiration) with major components microphytobenthos, macrofauna) a structural complexity gradient (in terms shoot density biomass), ranging from bare sand, sparse mixture dense monospecific meadow. enhanced magnitude relationships between metabolism. daily average per season at site was similar site, highlighting role microphytobenthos for unvegetated sediments. contribution associated macrofauna respiration contribution. Understanding these priority since climate change loss reducing habitat around world, jeopardizing valuable services.

a comparative pragmatic analysis of the speech act of “disagreement” across english and persian

the speech act of disagreement has been one of the speech acts that has received the least attention in the field of pragmatics. this study investigates the ways power relations, social distance, formality of the context, gender, and language proficiency (for efl learners) influence disagreement and politeness strategies. the participants of the study were 200 male and female native persian s...

Diversity, ecosystem function, and stability of parasitoid-host interactions across a tropical habitat gradient.

Global biodiversity decline has prompted great interest in the effects of habitat modification and diversity on the functioning and stability of ecosystem processes. However, the applicability of previous modeled or mesocosm community studies to real diverse communities in different habitats remains ambiguous. We exposed standardized nesting resources for naturally occurring communities of cavi...

Effects of a nonnative habitat-forming species on mobile and sessile epifaunal communities

Native and exotic sessile invertebrates can act as habitat modifiers and influence the diversity and composition of associated epifaunal communities. Theory and empirical research predict that greater habitat structural complexity will generally result in higher abundance, richness, and diversity of epifaunal species. We evaluated the impact of a recently introduced, structurally complex bryozo...

Habitat generalists and specialists in microbial communities across a terrestrial-freshwater gradient

Observations of distributions of microorganisms and their differences in community composition across habitats provide evidence of biogeographical patterns. However, little is known about the processes controlling transfers across habitat gradients. By analysing the overall microbial community composition (bacteria, fungi, archaea) across a terrestrial-freshwater gradient, the aim of this study...
